0

2019 was a year filled with exceptional movies hitting both the small and silver screen, such as The Irishman, Frozen II, Avengers: Endgame and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, to name only a few.

Of course, it would be impossible to evoke drama, excitement or tension without exceptional songs to complement the movie magic. Let’s take a look at the best soundtracks of 2019.

The Promised Land by Bruce Springsteen

Few artists have a back catalogue as strong as Bruce Springsteen, whose tracks have inspired people from all walks of life. It seemed almost inevitable that a flick would be made that featured many of the songs on The Boss’s 1978 album, Darkness on the Edge of Town. One track that certainly stood out was The Promised Land, which the protagonist, Javed, in the movie Blinded by the Light becomes inspired by during the late 1980s.

Juice by Lizzo

Unless you have been living in a box, you most likely heard Lizzo’s Juice at least once during 2019. The hit song not only appeared in the movie trailer for Long Shot, which stars Seth Rogan and Charlize Theron, but it has since featured in numerous advertisements and TV shows. It is, therefore, no surprise that it has been ranking highly in the latest Triple J Hottest 100 odds, and you’ll likely be singing the catchy track throughout 2020.

Into the Unknown by Idina Menzel

While it’s unlikely to become a club classic, it’s undeniable that Idina Menzel’s Into the Unknown for Frozen II is an exceptional song. It might not be as catchy as Let It Go, but it is a worthy and rather haunting soundtrack that takes audiences on an adventure. Unsurprisingly, this year it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again by Elton John

Speaking of the 2020 Oscars, Elton John has once again proved he is a musical genius by bagging a nomination in the Best Original Song category for (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again. The soundtrack featured in the superb flick Rocketman, with Taron Egerton portraying the music icon. If Academy Award buzz wasn’t enough, the track has also earned Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Award nominations. It’s one song you should definitely add onto your playlist.

So, if you are looking for superb songs to listen to in 2020, the above options are unlikely to disappoint.
